Transplantation Immunology, posttransplant monitoring
My major research interests are focused on elucidating the mechanism(s) underlying antibody mediated rejection. Non-HLA antibodies reactive with endothelial cells, such as anti-Vimentin, anti-angiotensin II typing I receptor and anti-MCIA antibodies have been found to have a deleterious effect in solid organ transplantations in addition to anti-HLA antibodies. We are currently focused on studying the role of HLA and endothelial specific antibodies in acute and chronic allograft rejection.
Posttransplant monitoring currently relies on surveillance of allograft function and requires the invasive procedure of allograft biopsy. I am also very interested in developing non-invasive immune monitoring assays using gene or protein expression patterns as biomarkers of allograft status to measure the patient’s immune status, to optimize the immunosuppressive therapy and identify transplant recipients at risk of acute and chronic rejection to improve
